Finals Draw for Week 1

Hi All

Please read the information below carefully, as there is a lot of detail which you need to absorb to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Congratulations to all teams that have made (or will make) the finals. Attached is the finals draw for week 1 of top 5 team finals. We will be emailing the finals draw each week and also posting it in the news section of the website. .

Kick Off Times
Kick off times are earlier to allow for the possibility of extra time. Please ensure you arrive at least 30 minutes prior to KO to get the card organised, fields setup etc.

Finals Series
Check your ladder on the website and you will see a top 4 or 5 highlighted. This indicates the finals system your division will follow.

I have attached a finals systems document if you need a refresh on how the 4 and 5 team finals series systems work.

Allocation of Venues
The availability of fields plays a big part in where we play. That along with getting the best officials we can to those grounds. So in summary, if you are travelling a long way to the ground, there's not much I can do about it. It is likely that some teams will be playing on their “home” ground. This is not meant to give any one an advantage or disadvantage – this is just a function of the allocation process.

There may be some venues that you have not played on or are unfamiliar with. If you are in doubt, please go to the website and select "field locations" from the left hand menu on the home page. All venues are listed and include UBD references.

Referee Fees
Referee fees are to be paid by teams as normal for all finals except the Grand Final. Grand Final referee fees are paid by the Association.

Special Finals Rules
Below is an extract from our Season Rules regarding finals which you should re-familiarise yourself with:

During the finals series if both teams have scored an equal number of goals at the end of the normal period of football, the referee will allow both teams to have a 5 minute break at which time the coin shall be tossed as per the normal start of game rules and 2 x 10 minute periods of extra time shall follow. During this time the Golden Goal rule shall be adopted and if a goal is scored then the referee shall blow full time and award the team which scores first in extra time the fixture. At half time in extra time the teams will swap ends and continue to play. There will be no rest period designated for half time. If after extra time the score is still locked then the referee will conduct a penalty shoot out as per the current FIFA guidelines to determine the winner of the fixture.
All players taking part in semi finals and finals must have played a minimum of 5 fixtures in the regular season to be eligible for selection. The executive may allow individual Players who have not played 5 fixtures to play in a finals series only when a club can show that extenuating circumstances have occurred that have stopped a registered player from completing his 5 fixtures.
No team shall be allowed to play in a semifinal or final unless all outstanding fees and fines are paid in full. Any team found in this situation shall forfeit their fixture. The next best placed team shall then be promoted to take this particular teams place in the finals series.
Any team forfeiting a final series fixture shall be replaced in that scheduled fixture by the next best placed team in that division. All finals series matches shall be played at their scheduled time and place. Normal flexibility rules regarding scheduled timing of fixtures shall not apply during finals series matches

Again, it's all been double checked but there may be some issues that have slipped through. If so then let me know.

All fixtures for this weekend cancelled

Following the rain, we have decided to cancel all fixtures for this weekend. This includes O30s, Ladies and Mens. A number of our fields have already been reported as being unplayable. In the interests of preserving the fields (that we borrow from others) and in fairness to all teams we have decided to declare a dead rubber. No points will be awarded and games are not eligible to replayed.

Enjoy the weekend off.

All games this weekend are cancelled

Hi Folks

Due to the weather, more than half of our fields have been pulled for the weekend already. The forecast is for conditions to worsen so we have made the call to cancel all games this weekend. This includes all comps; Mens, Ladies and Over 30s.

As such the weekend will be declared a dead rubber. Please consult the handbook for additional information.

Let’s hope the rain makes it to the dam catchments.

The Draw and Kenmore Field Layout Changes

Most of the draw for this week has been loaded to the website. The Ladies is still to be done but we are having some technical difficulties which should be resolved shortly.

Please note that with the additional fields at Kenmore Marist Bros, the field layout and numbering has been altered. Attached is a diagram with the new numbering which you should now adhere to. If you have trouble opening the link then click here: Kenmore Field Diagram

The draw has only been done for this week and it will likely be a week to week proposition for at least the next month. Please do not send me emails asking me when/why the draw is only a week or two ahead. There are two reasons for this. The first is that most teams have not provided a field for home games so we are literally scrounging each week for fields. Because of this you may be travelling a lot. The second reason is that within the next month we are likely to do a minor divisional change.

Mens Draw - 29 March and 5 April

Hi Everyone

The mens draw for this Saturday has been posted to the website. We are VERY short of fields this week so many of you are travelling – sorry. If you have not been able to source a home field for your team this is likely to continue to happen. It is in your best interests to look for a home field. Schools that you have a connection with remain the best option. Please work on this or you will be running up many kms in travel.

There are no scheduled games for 5^thApril. So your next game after this week will be 12^th April.

Finals Issues

To: All Clubs fielding sides in 2007 season finals

Shin Pads

All clubs are reminded that no player will be allowed to play in finals games if they are wearing inadequate shin protection. A number of players last weekend were asked by referees to remove themselves from the playing field and change shin pads. Shin pads must cover at least 70% of the shin area to be deemed adequate protection. For the remainder of games played this year all players will undergo shin pad inspection and if found to be wearing pads that do not offer adequate protection they will no be taking the field. This is a player safety issue that is not negotiable. Adequate shin pads offer protection against broken legs and ankles and we will not be relaxing this ruling for anyone. Do not ask for a relaxation of it as it will be declined. Regardless of what players have been wearing during the regular season they must offer as a minimum 70% coverage of the frontal shin area to be deemed adequate.

Grand Final Venues

Over 30’s Southern Cross League Grand Final will be played at John Oxley Reserve on Friday night the 14th September commencing at 7.30pm
Senior Men’s and Ladies divisions will be played at Mitchelton Soccer Club on Saturday 15th September commencing at 12.30pm.
Senior Mens Division 2,4,6 and Ladies Division 2 at 12.30pm (Field allocations to be advised)
Senior Mens Division 1,3,5 and Ladies Division 1 at 2.30pm (Field allocations to be advised)

Please note that if you have a game in the later time slot it would be appreciated if you could have your team ready to play 30 minutes prior to the scheduled time. This will allow us to commence the gem early if there is no extra time period required for the previous games. This in turn will allow us all to have an earlier than anticipated finish.

Mid week finals - Divs 1, 3, 4, 6, 30+

Hi All

As foreshadowed the above divisions have finals on Tuesday night this week. The times and venues have been posted to the website. Please ensure that you are ready to kickoff on time (particularly at Mitchelton) as all grounds have curfews. If teams are late starting, refs will be instructed to shorten the halves accordingly.

Addresses for each of the locations can also be found on the website. Please allow plenty of time to get there and kitted up ready to go at your starting times.

When the results are known I will finalise the grand final draw for next Saturday.

Devine Court Venue Advice for 8th Spetember 2007

Weather for this weekend

Once again the rain is falling and there is the chance that games will be affected this weekend.

Again, we will continue to monitor the state of the fields over the next 24-36 hours. It is vital that you stay in contact to ensure that you have the up to date information. The same process for communications will be used again:-

Any notices re weather will be posted to this mainml distribution list and will also be posted as a news item on the website at www.qbsa.org.au (homesite). Unless you are advised by one of these methods, your game is on and you must proceed to the ground as per the draw.

Rumours, hearsay or a weather report, official or otherwise don't count.

For over 30's a decision will be made by 5:00pm tomorrow (Fri). For other games it will be 9:00am on Sat morning.

Repeating - If there are any changes they will be advised by these times. If there is no notification then your team must go to the ground otherwise you will forfeit the game. If you have team members that are hard to contact, get on to them now and tell them to check out the website after their respective deadline above.

Please do not call executive members to ask if the game is still on. You will be told to check out the website or read your email.

We have no idea at this stage what happens with the finals schedule if games this weekend are affected. Once the weekend is over we will make a call based on number of games missed etc.

Whilst it is frustrating for getting the finals played, we still need the rain.

Weather procedures for finals

It's great to see all of the rain we have had this week. Let's hope some of it moves into the catchment areas and starts to fill the dams up.

Of course this has left us with some potential issues for the weekend. Already we have had to move games that are happening at Devine Court to ARC Hill.

We will continue to monitor the state of the fields over the next 24-36 hours. It is vital that you stay in contact to ensure that you have the up to date information.

One last point. If the weather deteriorates further, it may be likely that the whole weekend of fixtures will be cancelled. If this occurs, all finals games will be shifted back one week with the grand finals being played on 21/22 September.

Finals Information

Hi All

I have had a number of queries re the finals system. Essentially this will work the same as last year. Divisions with 8 teams or more will have a 5 team final system and divisions with less than 8 teams will have a 4 team final system. An explanation of the systems is attached.

This is how this will all pan out.

Saturday Comps:
Last home and away game: 18 August
Grand Final: 15 September
Mens Divisions 1,3,4,6 - Five team final system applies. Finals commence 25 August.
Mens Divisions 2, 5 - Four team final system applies. Finals commence 1 September.
Ladies Divisions 1 and 2 - Four team final system applies. Finals commence 1 September.

Over 30s:
Last home and away game: 17 August
Finals commence: 24 August
Grand Final: 14 September

Draws and additional instructions will follow after the last home and away round.

State Titles Thankyou

On behalf of the executive we want to thank all of you that represented Baptist Football Qld as players, coaches, managers and referees over the weekend up the Sunshine Coast. Whilst we may not have won any of the divisions we contested we certainly went out there with the appropriate attitude and our approach to the game was well noted by others. Over the weekend we fielded a number of enquiries from clubs considering a move to Baptist Football because of the on and off field behaviour they experienced from our people over the weekend.

To our managers and coaches that stepped up to the plate to take on teams with limited preparations our great thanks for your efforts both before and during the tournament. A number of our players in both ladies and senior mens gained selection in the state team to contest the nationals in Victoria later in the year.

Again coaches and players commented positively regarding the quality of our referees which is yet another great component of the competition we all participate in.

We hope that you all enjoyed your experience and will go back to your clubs exciting others to join us next year for another great weekend of State Titles football.

Website Updates

A new Print Page option has been added to the Fixtures page. This will allow you to print the upcoming fixtures without all of the menus etc.

The ladders have been updated to better reflect the position of teams on the ladder.

A new Rep Football page has been added to provide you with information about the upcoming State Titles and our associations participation in those titles.

Hope you find these updates useful. They were as a direct result of comments I received from other users of the site. If you have any other suggestions for the site then please feel free to let me know through the Contact Us link at the bottom of each page.
